How often should I have my carpet cleaned?
That really depends on the environment. The recommendation is that your carpet be cleaned at least once a year, but the number of occupants and the level of traffic may raise that number. Keeping the carpet clean will reduce the amount of wear caused by a high number of occupants. Many people don't know that it is the buildup of dirt and soil that wears your carpet down more than the foot traffic itself. The foot traffic actually grinds the dirt and soil into the carpet fibers, causing them to dull. This process results in a very worn and old-looking carpet.
What should I do to keep my carpet clean?
The main thing you should do is vacuum your carpet on a regular basis. Doing this will keep dirt from building up in your carpet, as well as prevent your carpet fibers from being worn down so quickly. Aside from that, you should also make it a point to clean spills as quickly as possible. Always remember to blot these spills with clean, absorbent materials. Never rub or brush them into the carpet. This will cause staining.
